On February 14, 2007 the Launch Conference “Advocacy in the Russian Far East: Experience and Plans” was held in Khabarovsk. Over 100 representatives of NGOs, local authorities, business and mass media of Khabarovsk and Primorsky krais, as well as representatives of USAID, international foundations and technical assistance programs such as: “Management Systems International” (Washington DC), IREX (Moscow), New Eurasia (Vladivostok), Regional Initiatives (Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk), Winrock International, CityLinks, “Communities and Alliances in the Municipal Level” (Khabarovsk), took park in the Workshop... Assessment is the first step of the program "Our rights". The task force that reviewed local situations put the following objectives:
- Identify the organizations, which are skilled and interested in advocacy activities and assessment of professional and resource potential;
- Identify issue area priorities around which advocacy actions of the Program might be organized;
- Identify localities where the project’s advocacy initiatives are most required and would be most successful;
- Develop training events for Khabarovski and Primorski Krai CSOs;
- Design recommendations and offers for implementing grants competitions, providing technical assistance of RFE NGOs, professional communities and alliances in accordance with their needs.
The detailed report and program strategy will be presented at the conference "Our rights: Experience and perspectives" (Attachment).
Under the Program “Community participation and regional advocacy" implemented in Khabarovski and Primorski Krais and funded by the United States Agency for International Development the competition for journalists is announced. Details are in attachment.
